It’s no secret that there are people out there who only pretend to be Christian then go around doing whatever they want to do.
It’s just the world we live in.
Yet my purpose is not to judge but rather to bring attention to the truth of what it actually means to walk the walk rather than just talk the talk in terms of faith and devotion.
14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
As this verse points out, the exemplary Christian man or woman is a person is willing to not just speak kind and uplifting words to those around us but to also work and sacrifice for them as well.
The reality of life is that it’s easy to say that we wish well for others than it is to genuinely get our hands dirty helping them through the difficulties and hardships that they have in their lives.
It’s easier to say we will pray for a friend who just got their heart broken than it is to stay up all night being a shoulder for them to cry on.
It’s easier to say we love someone than it is to carve out time from our busy schedules to actually spend time with them.
It’s easier to say we will not give up on someone than it is to tirelessly and relentlessly make ourselves open and vulnerable with them in the hope that they will come to their senses.
It’s easier to talk than it is to get things done.
Yet the fact is that to be someone who’s willing to work rather than talk is what loving God for real is all about.
But that is a good thing.
In the moments that we become doers of the word of God and not just hearers, we make the world around us a better place.
We help our enemies see that they have no reason to despise or oppose us, we help our brothers and sisters break free from the habits and mindsets that keep them down in life, and we help ourselves by coming one step closer to the person that God wants us to be.
Loving God for show is to love with the word from our lips and Loving God for real is to love with the dedication of our hearts.
Whether you know it or not, there are a lot of people in your life right now that could really benefit from just being loved.
Love God for real today and love them as God loves you.
