16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
The simple gospel doesn’t get any more simple than that.
Yet does this mean for us?
How does our acceptance of this one simple truth change our lives in any significant way?
There are many answers.
And I by no means wish to undermine any one of those many answers especially if there is one that you have already come to accept as your own.
What I will do however is provide three answers that adequately encompass the major ideals that everyone who has accepted the simple gospel into their lives should be aware of.
First, the simple gospel is what differentiates Christianity from every other walk of life.
Unlike any other religion or belief, only Christianity asserts that God came down in the form of man to pay the price for the sins of the world.
As we continuously strive to uphold the Christian standard of living through the imitation of Jesus, we must first make ourselves certain that we both believe that Jesus lived and that he was whom he claimed to be.
This is foundational.
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Before the simple Gospel can do anything for us, we must first believe it’s core message in the death and resurrection of Jesus because when only in that belief can our faith in the simple gospel itself rest on solid ground.
Second, the simple gospel assures us that through the promise of God by the sacrifice of Jesus, we no longer need to live in fear of minor things such as poverty, infirmity, and discrepancy because, in the Ressurection of Jesus, the ultimate victory is ours forever more.
1 John 5:4
4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.
In its all encompassing nature, the simple gospel allows us to find peace of mind and tranquility in spirit in the midst of any hardship or any tribulation.
Gods promise to us that is that as we believe in the sacrifice of his son on our behalf, our souls will never perish.
If we put our faith in the promise of God, we will find that the many fears and anxieties that at one time had absolute power over our lives have authority over us no longer.
In our belief in the simple gospel, we overcome the world.
Finally, in its illuminating promise, the simple gospel compels us to live our lives as walking examples of the love of God to all the world around us.
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
In our Christian lives, we must strive to continuously serve as a reflection of the love of God to all the world around us.
We must live not for ourselves, but for the glory of God.
Therefore we must live in a constant state of examination between ourselves and the commandments word of the word of God.
A Christian who accepts Christ yet refuses to live in accordance with the word of God does more to profane the name of God rather than uplift it.
The world at large can not know the love of God if those who claim to be Christian live lives of ignorance, hatred, and hypocrisy.
The call to Christianity is a call to challenge yourself to live the most honorable life you can possibly live in the name of the one just God.
Christianity isn’t easy.
Christianity shouldn’t be considered easy.
Christianity is faith that bears fruit in the form of work and builds character in the form of righteousness.
More than anything else, the simple gospel is a charge for each and every one of us to live better lives because we no longer represent just ourselves anymore, we represent something greater.
The simple gospel means so many different things to so many different people and in that fact, there is much to be celebrated.
Yet I hope that the things I mentioned here become apart of the interpretation of what the simple gospel means to you personally.
Life is too short to be spent wondering if we’re living it right.
So don’t live it your way and just survive, live it God’s way and always thrive.
